In 2020, HOCKET (Sarah Gibson & Thomas Kotcheff, piano), commissioned 50 composers to write 45-second miniatures for piano, 4 hands for their project #what2020soundslike, each work reflecting on events of the year.  I wrote this work on June 11th, 2020, in the midst of protests following the murder of George Floyd.  I had wanted write a brief memorial, not only to George Floyd but other individuals who'd lost their lives that year, including Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery.   I noted these people had names that began with letters of the alphabet also used as musical notes, and wrote this piece including as many instances of the notes "B - G - A" as I could include, to create quiet memorial.
